A Strong Interest in TWI
TWI was the key topic of a successful workshop at Lean Summit 2024. Specifically, the event took place after the Lean Institute Africa Summit. We were pleased that the TWI workshop attracted 30 participants who were eager to learn how Training Within Industry improves workplace training and leadership.
Following my keynote presentation, five more participants joined, illustrating the desire to learn more. Clearly, interest in TWI is growing. Moreover, the session provided hands-on insights into TWI Job Instruction and Job Relations. As a result, participants engaged in discussions about how to apply these methods in different industries.
Lean Institute Africa, a non-profit at UCT’s Graduate School of Business, has promoted Lean Thinking in Sub-Saharan Africa since 2008. As the region’s only Lean Global Network member, it fosters learning through education, research, and partnerships.

FROM KNOWLEDGE TO ACTION: AN INTERACTIVE WORKSHOP
The morning session focused on TWI Job Instruction. To begin with, participants learned how to instruct and train employees effectively. After that, we explored the core principles of TWI. As a result, the group became highly engaged, eager to learn, and ready to apply these methods in their organizations.
Furthermore, the interactive approach allowed participants to ask questions throughout the session. Consequently, this made the learning process even more dynamic and practical.

Afternoon Session: Strengthening Workplace Relationships
In the afternoon, we gradually shifted focus to TWI Job Relations. During this session, we discussed the importance of positive workplace relationships. More specifically, we explored how a supportive work environment can not only boost productivity but also enhance employee well-being.
Moreover, participants openly shared their experiences and challenges. Consequently, this led to many valuable discussions and fostered a highly collaborative learning atmosphere. Above all, witnessing how everyone contributed with diverse perspectives was truly inspiring and ultimately reinforced the importance of strong workplace relationships.
GROWING DEMAND FOR TWI CERTIFICATION
After the workshop, the response was truly overwhelming. More specifically, several participants expressed strong interest in TWI certification courses in early 2025. Moreover, this enthusiastic feedback highlighted the growing demand for structured training. Clearly, the workshop was not only informative but also highly relevant and practical, reinforcing its value for participants.
CONTINUING THE TWI JOURNEY
A Commitment to Ongoing Learning
Without a doubt, seeing knowledge put into action is always rewarding. Moreover, a workshop like this serves as a catalyst for continuous learning and development.
Additionally, I would like to express my gratitude to the organizers for the invitation. Indeed, it was an honor to participate in such a significant event and connect with so many dedicated professionals.
LOOKING AHEAD: COLLABORATION AND GROWTH
Looking ahead, I am eager to continue the dialogue and collaborate with all participants. Even more importantly, this experience has reaffirmed that we are on the right path toward promoting effective training and development in the industry.
By joining forces, we can successfully implement TWI methods in our organizations. As a result, this will lead to more efficient and productive workplaces. Ultimately, our collective efforts will drive long-term success and continuous improvement.
